Below you will find a link to a document describing the California SB100 Specially Constructed Vehicle registration
program and how it works. I did not create this document, nor do I know who did. It has been passed around and shared a lot,
and many of us, including me, have used it as a guide to help us through what can be a very confusing process.
You definitely want to do your homework before trying to register a Special Construction Vehicle in California.
One thing I will add, though, that isn't mentioned in this document. You MUST have a signed form from the DMV titled
"Application for Assigned Vehicle Identification Number Plate - REG 124" before the CHP will be able to assign you a VIN number.
My DMV didn't give me one of these on my first visit, and I had to go back to get one. Make sure you have one of these SIGNED
BY THE DMV before you make your CHP appointment.
