Writers who violate this rule will have all their future e-mail automatically put in the trash unread.
We are only interested in seeing works which can take advantage of computer-enhanced features such as hypertext or multimedia. Except in rare cases, we do not publish works which are straight prose (no hypertext or multimedia.) We can NOT use manuscripts on paper. We may be able to use Macintosh files if they have been saved as ASCII under System 7 or higher, however, we only publish IBM-PC compatible disks. Royalties for books published under the BOOKS-ON-DISKS (tm) imprint are thirty-three percent of the retail or wholesale sales, less shipping. No advance is offered. Serendipity Systems only contracts for the electronic rights; all on-paper, movie, and similar rights are retained by the author.
Things change very rapidly in the world of electronic publishing, and we have again changed our focus to meet the new conditions.
We are now publishing Rocket Editions--electronic books that run on NuvoMedia's Rocket eBook portable "reader" device. (See our Rocket Page.)
As a result of our survey of What do Rocket eBook users want? (See the results under "Survey" at EPF29.) we will be most interested in seeing science fiction manuscripts. As always, we are looking for believable plots, credible characters, and a strong story line.
For Rocket Editions we need manuscripts in ASCII or plain HTML. Do not submit manuscripts with complex HTML--Rocket eBooks can not display tables, color illustrations, or many of the common features of the versions of HTML used on the Internet. We will also be publishing windows-compatible versions of our Rocket eBooks--same source code; different display engine.
Submit manuscripts on disk via postal mail only. E-mail with an attached file from an unknown source will be automatically dumped.
We will continue to be interested in new genres, interactive fiction, etc., however, you should keep in mind that there isn't yet much of a market for such material.
Existing books and future publications will be converted into Microsoft Reader format. Other formats will continue be supported as long as they are viable. (The "source code" will continue to be HTML; files will be converted to .lit format.)
Serendipity Systems will publish general non-fiction books (primarily reference books) under the TheInfiniteBook imprint and will launch a www.TheInfiniteBook.com Internet site.
Before submitting a manuscript, see our Writers' Manuscript Help section.
